It's well established that good quality curtains add style and value to your property. What has been less recognised, until recently, are the excellent thermal properties of curtaining.
At a time when we are becoming more environmentally aware it is relevant to understand just how effective curtains are in maintaining a warm or cool home, and by doing so, lessening the amount of powered heating or cooling we require thus reducing greenhouse gasses.
Independent research has shown that a 1 degree increase in house temperatures reduces the amount of heating required by 10%. Custom made curtains which have a blockout lining on the back (and preferably a pelmet) can preserve up to 20% of room heat. Whilst they may seem like an expensive purchase at first, good quality curtains will repay that expense time and time again through air-conditioning and heating reductions.
